Going to the Dump

In our rural community there is no free garbage pickup. We either pay private contractors for trash removal or take it ourselves to the Town Recycling and Disposal Center, aka “The Dump.” Doctors, lawyers, Indian chiefs -- and writers – nearly all of us opt to do it on our own.

Daily Rituals

After reading a brief review in The New Yorker I ordered Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by Mason Currey from my local library. A title like that always gets my attention. We learn, through this collection of short essays, how famous creative people fought procrastination and got themselves to the desk. And Curry includes "writers, composers, painters, choreographers, playwrights, poets, philosophers, sculptors and scientists on how they create (and avoid creating) their creations."

Time – What Year Am I In Now?

I’ve been jumping around through time in my writing this week, which makes it nearly impossible to stay in the moment. Actually, I’ve never been very good at this. As Eckhart Tolle’s bestselling book, The Power of Now, states: “. . . the present moment is all you ever have. There is never a time when your life is not “this moment.”
